Nearmark

Never lose a place someone tells you about.

A friend names a restaurant. A reel shows a café. Save it in seconds — then Nearmark taps you on the shoulder when you're near it, even with the app closed.

"you have to try Tartine" a reel you saved a screenshot, somewhere

Free to start. Proximity alerts stay free, for everyone.

Saving was never the hard part

You already save places — screenshots, bookmarks, a message you meant to come back to. Then you walk right past the place and never think to look. The list isn't the problem. Remembering to check it is.

How it works

  1. 1 Save it from anywhere Share a maps link, an Instagram or TikTok post, or just a screenshot — Nearmark reads the place out of it, on your phone.
  2. 2 Then forget about it That's the point. No lists to tend, no app to check, nothing to keep tidy.
  3. 3 Get told when you're near Walk within range and your phone speaks up — with the app closed, and with the reason you saved it in the first place.

Why not just another list?

Every saved-place app waits for you to open it. That works fine on the evening you sit down and plan something.

Nearmark works on the day you've forgotten — which is every day that actually counts.

Geofencing, not tracking

Your phone checks whether you're near your own saved places. That check happens on the device, your location is never shared, and there's no history for anyone to sell. Battery use is minimal by design — the app watches a handful of places, not you.

What it looks like

Your places on a map, the reason you saved each one, and a trip that knows what's on today.

More than the alert

The alert is the point. These come with it.

TripsGive a list dates and it becomes a day-by-day plan that knows what's on today.
Shared listsSend a list to a friend. It stays live — places you add later show up for them.
Screenshot captureShare a screenshot and the place is read out of the image, on your phone.
Apple WatchToday's stops on your wrist, with directions and a tap to mark one done.
Home Screen widgetYour nearest saved places, without opening anything.
Siri & Shortcuts"Save my location in Nearmark", hands full, no typing.

Start with a list

Follow one and it stays live: new places appear as they're added, and you get an alert when you're near one.

What it costs

Free

  • 15 saved places
  • 2 lists
  • Proximity alerts
  • Sharing, photos, custom range

Monthly, yearly, or pay once — current prices are on the App Store. The alert itself is never behind the paywall.

Questions people actually ask

Does it drain my battery?

No. Nearmark doesn't follow you — iOS watches a small number of places for it and wakes the app only when you cross into one. That's the same low-power machinery your phone already uses for reminders at a location.

Does it work with the app closed?

Yes, and that's the entire point. If you had to open Nearmark for it to work, it would be a list — and you'd have to remember you saved something, which is the problem in the first place.

Where does my location go?

Nowhere. The check happens on your device, against places you saved. There's no location history stored, nothing uploaded, and nothing to sell.

Can I save from Instagram or TikTok?

Yes. Share the post to Nearmark and it reads the place from the link. Those apps don't pass captions along, so for a reel a screenshot works best — Nearmark reads the words straight off the image.

Is there an Android version?

Not yet. Nearmark is iPhone and Apple Watch today.

Is this a recommendation app?

No. It only ever shows you places you chose to save, or a list you deliberately followed. It won't suggest restaurants at you.

Works on iPhone and Apple Watch. Also does trips, shared lists and a Home Screen widget — but the alert is the point.
